Do you need RV insurance in Wyoming?

If you drive a motorhome, RV liability coverage is required by Wyoming law and can pay for damages or injuries you cause on the road. If you need more coverage than the state minimum, you can increase your liability limits to protect your assets. Here are the coverages and minimum limits required by Wyoming law:

CoverageWhat it coversAmount
Bodily injury liability coverage (BI)What it coversInjuries you cause to others while driving your motorhomeAmount$25,000 per person
$50,000 per accident
Property damage liability coverage (PD)What it coversDamage you cause to other people's property in an accidentAmount$25,000 per accident

Wyoming also mandates uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage, but you may reject or lower these coverages with the submission of a signed form.

Medical payments coverage (MedPay) is optional in Wyoming but may be useful if you're not able to pay your or your passengers' medical bills after an accident. MedPay can help pay for medical expenses for you or your passengers, even if you're at fault.

Do you need insurance on a camper in Wyoming?

If you're pulling a camper or travel trailer, Wyoming law requires that you carry auto liability coverage for the vehicle pulling your camper. It's important to note that your auto liability coverage won't cover damage to your travel trailer or motorhome. There are coverage options available for those who want further protection. Comprehensive and collision coverage

If you're financing or leasing your motorhome or travel trailer, lenders typically require RV comprehensive and collision coverage. If you own your RV outright, these coverages are optional. But we understand the financial and emotional investment many RV owners put into their home away from home. To protect your prized asset against damage, it may be wise to add comprehensive and collision coverage.

Comprehensive covers events out of your control, including RV theft, vandalism, fire, hitting an animal, and weather-related issues. Collision covers your RV if you collide with another vehicle, tree, fence, guardrail, or any object.

How much is RV insurance in Wyoming?

The average premium for a 12-month Wyoming RV insurance policy at Progressive for 2023 was $843.22 for a motorhome and $624.73 for a travel trailer. Progressive offers RV liability-only policies starting at just $125/year,* but your cost for RV insurance depends on many factors, such as:

  • Type and model: The more expensive your RV is to repair or replace, the more you pay to insure it. Larger, newer RVs often cost more than smaller, used RVs; and motorhomes typically cost more than travel trailers or pop-ups.
  • Claims history: Your history of filing insurance claims may affect your rate.
  • Driving record: Violations can increase the price of your policy.
  • Location: Your ZIP code can influence the cost of RV insurance.

What if I live in my RV full time?

If your RV is your permanent residence, you may need additional coverage that a recreational RV policy doesn't offer. However, a full-time RV insurance policy may offer protection when your RV is your primary home with the following coverages:

  • Personal liability: Liability coverage on a full-timers policy can protect against liability claims if you're responsible for someone else's injuries or damages, even when your RV is parked.
  • Medical payments: If someone hurts themselves in or around your RV, medical payments coverage may pay for their medical bills.
  • Loss assessment: This coverage can pay for fees or charges from your RV association, up to $5,000.
